This podcast was conducted at the CMHA Annual Winter Conference held on February 2nd, 2026 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Kalamazoo, MI.

Douglas Brinker was appointed to the LifeWays Board of Directors in 2025. Doug brings knowledge and wisdom with him to the Board: a veteran (Navy and Michigan Army National Guard), an author, a Peer Support Specialist (CPSS), Founder of Beacon4Hope LLC, a Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) and much more. His extensive experience in the military, in combination with his personal struggles leading to 2 suicide attempts, has brought him to a life dedicated to the service of others. This forthright, authentic interview is full of ups and downs told with a desire to help. Doug leads by doing – helping one person – every day. Doug lets people know, “it is ok not to be ok, and it is ok to ask for help”.
