REGISTERED NURSE – CRISIS SERVICES (CONTINGENT)
(THIS IS A CONTINGENT POSITION)
Under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse, the Registered Nurse – Crisis Services monitors clients, administers medications, keeps records, consults with healthcare providers, and educates clients utilizing the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides nursing care and services within the standards and scope of nursing practice as defined within the state Nurse Practice Act regulations, policies, procedures, and protocols, in addition to facility specific policies and procedures.
• Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of clients and their caregivers.
• Serves as a client advocate while utilizing the nursing process to plan, deliver, and evaluate goal-focused, individualized, safe, age specific care for all clients, including those with complex needs.
• Utilizes client/patient centered approach to gather information about the person and their circumstances.
• Observes and records patient behavior.
• Assesses patients’ conditions.
• Performs physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
• Records patients’ medical histories and symptoms.
• Prepares patients for exams and treatment.
• Administers medications and treatments; monitors patients for side effects and reactions.
• Perform routine procedures (blood pressure measurements, administering injections etc.) and documents in patients’ charts.
• Operates and monitors medical equipment.
• Counsels and educates patients and their families on treatment plans.
• Documents patient care services by charting in-patient and department records.
• Consults with supervisors and doctors to decide the best treatment plan for patients.
• Conducts research to find ways to improve the healthcare processes and improve patient outcomes.
• Creates, implements, and evaluates patient care plans with medical teams.
• Supervises licensed practical and vocational nurses, nursing assistants, and nursing students.
• Provides physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
• Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and their families.
• Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
• Participates in finding solutions for variances from client goals and ensures implementation of solutions.
• Communicates and coordinates care within a multidisciplinary team.
• Obtains details of Advance Directives such as Mental Healthcare Power of Attorney.
• Participates in the development of educational curriculum supporting health and wellness.
• Partners with other provider agencies in the coordination of care to help participants achieve wellness, including the completion of a recovery-oriented discharge/accomplishment plan.
• Coordinates services with various public and private community health, mental health, and social service agencies to ensure appropriate services for participants.
• Follows company policy regarding “No Force First.”
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of medical and behavioral health practices and terminology.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. (BSN preferred).
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
• One (1) year of full-time paid experience working in a behavioral health setting.
Trauma Informed Care experience is preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSE(S):
• A Valid State of Michigan clinical licensure: RN
• A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
• A Nursing Competency Checklist must be completed as part of the new hire onboarding process.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will work in the DWIHN Crisis Care Center. This position will be required to work with persons who may suffer from mental health or substance abuse crises.
Crisis Care Operations is a 24/7 unit. Candidates will be required to work a 12-hour schedule. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.
