PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST SUPERVISOR
Under the general supervision of the Crisis Care Center – Site Director, the Peer Support Specialist Supervisor will oversee other Peer Support Specialists at the DWIHN Crisis Care Center.
The Peer Support Specialist Supervisor also provides active support, community resources and recovery training to individuals receiving services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervises Peer Support Specialists at the DWIHN Crisis Care Center.
• Assists and provides support to the Peer Support staff.
• Provides active support, community resources and recovery training to individuals receiving services.
• Assists in implementing/creating a therapeutic recovery environment and acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of every individual.
• Ensures that the Peer Support Staff adhere to the individuals’ treatment plan/goals.
• Identifies community resources and forges a warm transfer to community services for the individuals’ successful transition back to the community.
• Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services and/or resources to help the individual achieve their goals.
• Provides peer support in sharing real-life experiences to engage individuals in a recovery process and assists in identifying participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.
• Teaches life skills to encourage individuals to use recovery tools.
• Models hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.
• Assists in developing natural supports and community living.
• Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose).
• Assists when needed for the following responsibilities: food preparation, serving and clean up.
• Completes documentation as required.
• Assists with program evaluation.
• Participates on the unit leadership team.
• Completes monthly reports.
• Assists in creating the unit best practices and processes.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
High school diploma or a G.E.D.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of professional experience performing peer recovery and support duties and responsibilities.
AND
Two (2) years of full-time paid professional experience as a manager or supervisor.
REQUIRED LICENSE(S).
A valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with a safe and acceptable driving record. Must have reliable transportation.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
Must obtain Peer Support Specialist certification within 18 months of hire through the successful completion of the Peer Employment Training through the State of Michigan. Active and valid Food Handler’s Certification required or obtained within the first 30 days of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position will work in the DWIHN Crisis Care Center. This position will be required to work with persons who may suffer from mental health or substance abuse crises.
Crisis Care Operations is a 24/7 unit. Candidates will be required to work a 12-hour schedule. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.
