If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to work as a Juvenile Justice Police & Community Liaison!

What You Will Be Doing
Working as a Juvenile Justice Police and Community Liaison.  you will  partner with local police departments, families, and youth to divert youth from arrest.  As a youth mental health specialist, you will link youth to behavioral health and community services.  The youth will have multiple police contacts or who are at the arrest decision point with the goal to help divert youth age 10-14 from arrest and court involvement. 

Our program focuses on following the youth arrest rate and reducing disparities in arrest rates.  The position will operate within a collaborative team environment that includes mental health specialists, police, and community members to make a difference in the lives of Kalamazoo County residents.  This is a grant funded position – grant funding ends 9/30/2023

What We Require
You will have a minimum of one to three years’ experience working with youth with serious emotional disturbance, substance use and/or co-occurring disorders. You will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field, Master’s degree preferred. A valid Michigan Motor Vehicle Operator’s license is required. Preferred Licensed Bachelors Social Work (LBSW) or Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW).

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Physical Efforts –    Job demands include prolonged sitting and standing as appropriate. May occasionally require light lifting up to 25 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending as appropriate. Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot.
