General Summary:

This position oversees Business Operations inclusive of the departments of Human Resources, Contracts and Provider Network Management, and Finance. This position assesses overall financial strengths and weaknesses, develops, plans and evaluates all financial services critical to organizational functioning, directs and coordinates activities and reporting of all finance, general accounting, cost/budget accounting, bookkeeping, claims, reimbursements, payroll and accounts payable/receivable consistent with federal, state, and local government working within the generally accepted accounting principles. The CFO provides highly responsible and complex leadership support to the Chief Executive Officer for the overall benefit of LifeWays.

Essential Functions:

Management of annual policy review and maintaining up-to-date procedures for the Human Resources, Contracts and Provider Network Management, and Finance departments.
Prepares all MDHHS (Michigan Department of Health and Human Services) reports, including FSRs (Financial Status Reporting), CRCS (Contract Reconciliation and Cash Settlement), and ISFs (Internal Service Funds).
Prepares monthly financial reports for presentation to the LifeWays Board of Directors in their monthly Program & Finance standing committee.
Approves purchase orders for Agency purchases.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of finance; researches emerging products and enhancements and their applicability to LifeWays’ needs. This may require travel at unexpected times and generally occur in Jackson and Hillsdale counties, but travel within the State of Michigan may be necessary.
Travels to meet regularly with community resources and MDHHS to ensure good working relationships, accurate information, and identifying and resolving barriers. Provides leadership and direction, as well as coordinates the staffing and organizational activities for the Finance department. Responsible for day-to-day supervision, counseling, and discipline of staff, performance evaluations, initial 90-day period evaluations for new employees and annual thereafter.
Fosters and promotes a “customer-first” attitude in the work habits of staff, to achieve a high level of user satisfaction.
Stays current and maintains knowledge of trends, Risk Management rules and regulations, State and Federal level regulations, rules and laws regarding the mental health industry to ensure effective and efficient use of resources; ensures LifeWays meets all regulatory legal and accounting standards, communicating those standards to Leadership and Board members.
Oversight of the Fixed Asset Schedule, recording and posting process of daily transactions, proper recording of month-end transactions, annual financial and compliance audits.
Oversees the budget preparation process for the agency, with all LifeWays departments and monitoring departmental budgets.
Responsible for the strategic planning of Human Resources, Contracts and Provider Network Management, and Finance departments. Participates in the strategic planning process as a responsible member.
Responsible for strategic planning, goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the department.
Collects, analyzes and maintains data on program operations, staff performance, and key results.
Responsible for adherence to all Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) standards.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Required Education/Certification/Licensure:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Finance (MSF), Accounting (MBA), Business Administration (MBA) or related field or equivalent experience.
Mental Health First Aid Training, upon hire.
Must have reliable transportation.
Preferred Education/Certification/Licensure:

Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
CPR, AED, and First Aid Training.
