VIRTUAL - Making Prevention More Effective (Cohort 1) June 28 & 29

Event Details	MPME Training will provide an introduction to the science and research used by certified Substance Abuse Prevention Specialists to decide what problem behaviors to address, measure the community’s willingness to create change and address the problem, chose the most effective and realistic strategies and measure and sustain their efforts.

Agenda	Day 1 Agenda – 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 9-11:00a.m. Welcome/Introductions to classmates Overview of Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) concept Introduction to person-first and stigma reduction terminology Introduction of risk and protective factor concept Introduction of adolescent brain development 11 a.m.- Noon LUNCH Noon-2 p.m. Introduction and conversation regarding epidemiology and data driven decision making, community assessment and capacity building Introduction of case study community 2- 2:15p.m. BREAK 2:15-3:30p.m. Self-directed work in workbook based on case study community Day 2 Agenda – 9-10:00 a.m. 9-10:00 a.m. Review of self-directed work Conversation regarding the power of the celebration for community groups and team members. Wrap up and conclude.
Objective	Understand the research basis to substance use disorder prevention. Understand what risk and protective factors are. Be able to choose what risk and protective factors to address as volunteers. Understand the need for data collection, planning and evaluation as it relates to their efforts. Work side-by-side with certified Substance Use Disorder Prevention Specialists, Community Organizers, and Coalition Coordinators as they carry out their prevention activities based on a funded action plan.

Presenter(s)	Ken Dail Ken has been a part of Michigan’s Substance Abuse Prevention landscape since his high school days in the 1980’s. He has worked as a service provider, volunteer, state-wide initiative coordinator, and most recently as the Executive Director of Prevention Network of Michigan. He is now consulting and providing trainings throughout the state in the human service field. When he is not working to train and increase the capacity of agencies, organizations, and preventionists, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Jodi, and his two young adult sons. He has also turned his lumber reclaiming woodworking hobby into a side hustle business, Rebranded Creations. The family is very active across the state with their friends and extended families. They are active at River’s Edge Church and Impact Church, where Ken is a member of the Elder Team and is a volunteer ordained pastor.

Substance Abuse Professionals: CMHA is approved by Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP). CMHA maintains the responsibility for the program and content. Substance Abuse Professionals participating in this training may receive a maximum of 6 specific contact hours. Some "Related" workshops may meet MCBAP/IC&RC educational requirements for focused topics in addiction certification domains, such as for Peer Recovery or Supervisor credentials. It is important that attendees keep a copy of the training program brochure containing the workshop description.
Cancellation Policy	Cancellation Policy: Substitution are permitted 3 business days prior to the training. No-shows will be billed at the full training rate. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 10 business days prior to the training for a full refund less a $15 administrative fee. If cancellation is received less than 10 business days prior to the training, no refund will be given. Refunds will be issued within 90 days of the training.
Grant Funding/Sponsors	This event, sponsored by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), through the Community Mental Health Association of Michigan (CMHA) has provided funding for this initiative through Federal Substance Abuse Block Grant.
