This newly expanded 2-Day Motivational Interviewing (MI) for Supervisors training focuses on two different areas - supervision and increasing MI competency to build a more effective team. The first day explores the purpose of supervision and different supervision tasks. It focuses on providing supervision utilizing the philosophy and core components of Motivational Interviewing. Supervisors will be able to utilize Motivational Interviewing to enhance their team meetings and improve team culture/climate. The second day assists supervisors with enhancing staffs’ use of MI to improve quality of care to those served. The training will explore how the Spirit of MI and Person-Centered Planning fit together. Supervisors will have tools to assist staff with using the MI processes to matching stage of change with where individuals are with their goals and motivations. They will be able to recognize behaviors that support autonomy and activation. Supervisors will learn strategies to identify and coach staff on responding to sustain talk and change talk.
This training is intended for supervisors of contact level staff/practitioners such as case managers, supports coordinators, therapists, crisis workers, and peer support specialists in the state of Michigan at the intermediate or advanced level of practice.
