Benefit-to-Work Coach Training Description: This Benefit-to-Work Coach training begins with 9 self-paced online lessons which provide an overview of Benefit-to-Work Coach services, an overview of the Michigan specific Disability Benefits 101 (MI DB101) website (www.mi.db101.org), basic information about the benefits and program rules covered on MI DB101, and procedures for verifying benefits. Upon successful completion of the self-paced lessons, the training proceeds to the live instructor-led training presented via Zoom. The live training is an interactive opportunity to reinforce and heighten clarity of the information from the self-paced lessons and focus on the role and skills needed to deliver Benefit-to-Work Coach services.
Who Should Attend: This training is intended for serious practitioners of benefits to work in the field that are supported by their agency/organization to apply information to help individuals make self-determined choices and increase employment outcomes. Attendees should primarily support persons with mental illness (due to funding). Please see attached Benefit-to-Work Coach Knowledge, Skills & Attributes section of this document for more information.
Registration Fee: $149.00 (complete) Fee includes: Online modules and virtual training. Technical assistance and ongoing education opportunities are provided upon attainment of micro-certification.
Objectives - Participants will be able to:
- Provide basic information about Federal and State benefits programs and work incentives.
- Promote accurate and encouraging messages about benefits and work.
- Comfortably debunk prevalent benefit myths.
- Use www.MI.DB101.org to support individuals to explore benefits and work opportunities by using basic benefits and work incentives estimators and “try-it” mini-tools.
- Utilize a benefits planning decision guide to determine when to provide benefits guidance and when to refer to a Benefits Planner or CWIC for additional support

Presenter is Tracy Howard:
Tracy Howard is the Benefit-to-Work Coach State Lead and works for Training & Treatment Innovations (TTI). For over a decade she has provided a variety of services related to public benefits and Social Security work incentives, including individualized benefits counseling and trainings. She is credentialed as a Community Partner Work Incentive Counselor via Virginia Commonwealth University and as a Certified Work Incentive Practitioner via Cornell University.
Cancellations must be received in writing at least 10 business days prior to the conference for a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. If cancellation is received less than 10 business days prior to the training, no refund will be given and the full charge will be incurred. Substitutions are permitted at any time.

Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, through the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards, has provided funding for this initiative through Federal Community Mental Health Block Grant.
