The conceptual foundation of ethics represents an inherent and essential framework for behavioral health. In this presentation attendees will gain a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts of ethics in practice. Ethical codes and guidelines will be defined and discussed, including the NASW Code of Ethics, the MCBAP Code of Ethics, and the NAADAC Code of Ethics. Ethical concepts, including confidentiality, informed consent, personal and professional boundaries, and dual relationship issues, will be addressed and relevant case studies will be presented and discussed. With the increase of clinical practice through phone and video platforms, ethical concepts surrounding telehealth and teletherapy will be defined and discussed. The significant differences that exist between the ethical codes and guidelines established by the various governing boards will be addressed. Attendees will learn about ethical issues surrounding beginning and ending clinical relationships. Ethical problem-solving models, tools, and concepts will be examined and utilized. Throughout the seminar attendees will be actively engaged in a multi-media, multi-sensory presentation, well suited to all learning-styles.

Participants will be able to: 1. Name and describe the fundamental concepts of ethics in practice; 2. Describe confidentiality concepts as defined by the various governing boards; 3. Define and describe informed consent in various contexts and disciplines; 4. Describe and differentiate between personal and professional ethics; 5. Name the most frequent boundary violations and ethical challenges faced by social workers and substance use disorder (SUD) professionals in practice; 6. Recognize differences between the Code of Ethics as established by the various governing boards; 7. Name and describe common ethical issues in telehealth.

Stephanie M Huhn MA, LLP, CBIS, CAADC, CCM, ACCTS
Stephanie holds a Master of Arts in clinical & humanistic psychology and is a Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP) in the state of Michigan. She is an Advanced Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (ACCTS), a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS), a Certified Case Manager (CCM) and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC). She holds special interests in complex and developmental trauma, addiction and neuroscience and has researched, presented, and written on this these topics. She has served as assistant clinical director of a rehabilitation program, has held roles in intake/admissions, marketing, case coordination and program development; She has provided group, family and individual psychotherapy in inpatient and outpatient settings, within community mental health, in neurorehabilitation programs as well as in co-occurring disorder treatment settings. Currently, Stephanie works in private practice in Chelsea and Northville, Michigan and enjoys public speaking and providing education and training on various mental health topics.
Social Workers: This course qualifies for a maximum of 6 CEs and fulfills the Michigan Social Work Licensing Board’s requirement for licensure renewal for ethics. The Community Mental Health Association is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. Approved Provider Number: MICEC 060818. Qualifies as “face-to-face (in-person) education.”
Substance Abuse Professionals: CMHAM is approved by Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP). CMHAM maintains the responsibility for the program and content. Substance Abuse Professionals participating in this training may receive a maximum of 6 contact hours. This training fulfills the MCBAP approved treatment ethics code education – specific. It is important that attendees keep a copy of the conference program brochure containing the workshop descriptions along with their attendance record form. Qualifies as “face-to-face (in-person) education.”
This course does NOT currently qualify for CEUs for Psychologists.
Recipient Rights: This course (RCA19-089) qualifies for 6.0 Recipient Rights CEU hours, Category IV (Augmented).
Certificate Awarded: After confirmation that you have fully participated in this training (see Virtual Participation section below) your Continuing Education Certificate will be emailed to you within 30 days of the training.
Virtual Participation: You are expected to actively participate in the training. See below for additional information about virtual training recommendations and requirements:
- After registering, you will receive a confirmation email.
- One week prior to the training you will be sent a link to register in Zoom. Be sure to use the same email used to register on the CMHA website. After registering in Zoom you will automatically be sent the meeting link and password. Zoom registration links for the training will only be sent to paid registrants.
- Recommend that you save the meeting link in your calendar for easy access the day of the training.
- You must watch the training LIVE to receive credit for the training.
- In order to receive credit for this training attendees must be on video via their own device, showing the individual throughout the entire training, and be situated in a way that is sufficient for active engagement and learning as determined by CMHAM. Virtual trainings are to be treated with the same attention and vigor as an in-person training. Telephone only is not acceptable.

- Lack of response to multiple chats directly from moderators may impact your ability to receive credit.
- Recommend that attendees log into the meeting's waiting room at least 15 minutes before the training begins.
- Registration report will indicate arrival time (note you must be logged into the virtual training within 5 minutes of the start of the training).
- Polls and/or quizzes will be randomly given with a limited time for attendees to response. This is required to show participation.
- Internet: A strong internet connection is highly recommended. If your internet service is not able to stream videos, it will likely not be strong enough to support a webinar training. - Each training takes place in the time zone of its location and all agenda times reflect that.

Continuing Education Rules indicate that if you are over 5-minutes late or depart early, you forfeit your CEs for the entire training. Please note that this is a National rule that CMHA must enforce or we could lose our provider status to provide CEs in the future. This rule will be strictly followed.

Substitution are permitted 3 business days prior to the training. No-shows will be billed at the full training rate. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 10 business days prior to the conference for a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. If cancellation is received less than 10 business days prior to the training, no refund will be given. Refunds will be issued within 60 days of the training. You will receive a refund receipt to the email address provided when the original payment was made. If you have not received a receipt, please email your request to email@example.com with registrant and organization name, training name and date, and order number.
