Training Times:
9:00am – 3:30pm daily (Must log in 15 minutes early)
Arrive at 8:45am for Registration. Training starts promptly at 9:00am.
Participants arriving late or departing early will NOT receive any CE credit. There are absolutely no exceptions.

To participate in this training, you MUST be an employee of a Michigan CMHSP or a CMHSP contract provider. You MUST already be trained as a CAFAS Rater to attend the Training for Agency Trainers.
Dates:  August 20-21, 2020
Training Location: Virtual Training via Zoom

There is no charge for this training. However, you do need to register.

Training Day 1 – Thursday, August 20, 2020

Note:  Participants are required to complete all Reliability Vignettes no later than 8/28/20


1. Explain the importance of regular CAFAS training as part of using this researched-based tool.
2. Describe 4 research and clinical uses of the CAFAS, including age ranges and appropriate clinical settings
3. Demonstrate the ability to differentiate the levels of severity of behaviors. 
4. Understand and explain the general rules of scoring the CAFAS as utilized in the Michigan CMH system.  
5. Understand and explain the specific scoring guidelines for each CAFAS subscale.
6. Understand and explain the CAFAS rating protocol for school, including summer school, homeschooling, and school in residential setting.  
7.  Identify and explain the Caregiver scales.
8.  Organize and plan for training others, including process for mentoring, record-keeping, ongoing technical assistance to new raters.
9.  Create at least 2 appropriate examples of items illustrating scoring rules in order to enhance presentation skills for teaching the CAFAS
10.  Achieve reliability by passing the CAFAS reliability test.

Who Should Attend
Who Should Attend: Mental health professionals who are already trained as CAFAS Raters at all levels of practice (beginning, intermediate and/or advanced).

Ann Heerde, LMSW, serves as the Program Supervisor for Family Services at CMH of Ottawa County. She received her Master’s in Social Work from Grand Valley State University. Ann has been CAFAS/PECFAS trainer for 11 years. Her previous employment experience includes working as a Team Leader at Family Outreach Center, Surveillance Officer for Kent County Juvenile Court, Mentoring & Aftercare Coordinator at Serve Our Youth of Iowa and the Children’s Ministry Director at The Other Way Ministries.
CEUs Continuing Education Credits:
Social Workers: This course qualifies for a maximum of 10.25 Continuing Education hours. The Community Mental Health Association is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. Approved Provider Number: MICEC 060818.
Certificate Awarded: At the conclusion of this conference, turn in your Certificate of Attendance form to the CMHAM Staff to be approved. You will turn in the top sheet & retain the bottom sheet which serves as your certificate. No other certificate will be given.

Since there is no fee for this event, we request written cancellation notice if you find that you are unable to attend once you have registered. This allows others to attend who may have been turned away because of limited space.
