This 2-day training will begin with a dialogue stemming from a series of questions eliciting trainee experiences with using MI since their participation in the Basic Training. An in-depth review of the 5 training modules covered in the Basic Training will occur during the 2 days of training via lecture, videos, numerous exercises and real plays. Participants will gain deeper knowledge of MI and be able to apply MI effectively and efficiently in targeted settings. Participants will understand how MI is much more than just a client-centered interaction with others and will actively experience its positive impact on developing rapport, identifying change goals, planning for change and evoking motivation for implementing change. The Four Processes, Key Values, the Four Elements of the Spirit of MI and the Four General Principles will be covered in this training. At the conclusion of this training, participants should be prepared to use Motivational Interviewing at a much deeper level.
Attendees are required to take the 2 day Motivational Interviewing Basic Skills Training prior to attending Motivational Interviewing Advanced Skills Training. Advanced MI training is intended for clinical directors, supervisors, case managers, supports coordinators, therapists, crisis workers, and any other practitioners at the intermediate or advanced level of practice.
$125 per person.
The fee includes training materials, continental breakfast and lunch both days.
|Who Should Attend||
This event is sponsored by the adult mental health block grant and is intended only for persons who serve adults through the mental health and substance abuse provider network in the state of Michigan. It contains content appropriate for CEOs, COOs, clinical directors, supervisors, case managers, support coordinators, therapists, crisis workers, peer support specialists and any other practitioners at the beginning, advanced and supervisory levels of practice.
Dan Reed, MA, LPC, Member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)
Dan Reed has over 25 years of experience working in human services. He’s held both direct service and supervisory positions with a primary focus in children and family services in a CMH setting. Dan completed the Motivational Interviewing Train the Trainer – Wyoming Protocol training initiative in the state of Michigan in 2010 and became a Member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) in 2014. Dan has provided MI Basic Training in multiple behavioral and physical health settings in the state of Michigan and nationally. Dan is best known for being very passionate about motivational interviewing and how it is helpful for both the client, provider, and a means for replacing traditional deficit-based approaches to engagement and treatment.
12 Continuing Education Hours:
Social Workers: This course qualifies for a maximum of 12 continuing education hours. The Community Mental Health Association is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative. Approved Provider Number: MICEC 060818.
Substance Abuse Professionals: CMHAM is approved by Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP). CMHAM maintains the responsibility for the program and content. Substance Abuse Professionals participating in this training may receive a maximum of 12 specific contact hours. It is important that attendees keep a copy of the training brochure containing the descriptions along with their attendance record form.
Certificate Awarded: At the conclusion of this training, turn in your Certificate of Attendance form to the CMHAM Staff to be approved. You will turn in the top sheet & retain the bottom sheet which serves as your certificate. No other certificate will be given.

*National Accreditation rules indicate that if you are over 5-minutes late or depart early, you forfeit your CEUs for the entire training. Please note that this is a National rule that CMHAM must enforce or we could lose our provider status to provide CEUs in the future. This rule will be strictly followed.
|Cancellation Policy||Substitutions are permitted at any time. No-shows will be billed at the full training rate. Cancellations must be received in writing at least 10 business days prior to the conference for a full refund less a $25 administrative fee. If cancellation is received less than 10 business days prior to the training, no refund will be given.|
